Domestic abuse
is like an iceberg…

most of it can’t be seen.

What makes us different

Escape to Better Foundation

is a registered non-profit organisation focusing on pre-crisis intervention for victim-survivors of domestic violence.

There are thousands of victims of domestic violence who silently suffer emotional, psychological, financial, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their life partner. They often remain invisible until a tragedy occurs.

That’s why we focus on pre-crisis intervention.

We come from a place of lived experience of domestic violence at the hands of a life partner. As a consequence, we know what it’s like to feel alone, unsure of what to do or who to talk to. We also know what it’s like to live in fear of your partner who may be controlling many aspects of your life.

We are:

  • Proudly gender neutral because abuse can happen to anyone although we recognise women are more likely to be abused by their life partner
  • Sympathetic to the cultural and religious challenges victims may face
  • Border-free and not limited by geographical constraints

You deserve better!

If you are experiencing fear, control or physical abuse, you might be unsure about whether you should leave the relationship and how you will manage on your own.

It’s a horrible, horrible situation to be in and knowing who to turn to for help can feel like an enormous barrier.

But you deserve better. That’s why the Escape to Better Foundation offers online tools and resources to help you to:

  • Make the decision to leave
  • Create and implement a sustainable escape from domestic violence and intimate partner abuse
  • Inform and educate your family, friends and work colleagues so they have a better understanding of what you are experiencing.

If you are experiencing domestic violence or other forms of intimate partner abuse

We are very glad you found our website because this could be the first step to transitioning from a victim of domestic violence to a victim-survivor. Our ultimate hope for you is that you create a life where you are thriving and feel free to be you!

When our co-founder suddenly found herself being threatened by her life partner, she didn’t know what to do. At the time, there was minimal support for victims of domestic violence. She was left to fend for herself, forced to make important decisions on instinct.

We don’t want anyone else to be in this situation. That’s why we began the Escape to Better Foundation.

Please visit our Online Resources where you will find information we hope will guide you through your decision to leave the abusive relationship and start rebuilding your life. We are not trained counsellors. Instead, we speak from lived experience, sharing our experiences and insights to help you make informed decisions.

With the help of our supporters, volunteers and donors, we do all of this at no cost or for a low cost to you.
